Bio
Bassa Aspinall is a highly successful entrepreneur who has been involved in various businesses since his youth. With a track record of success across multiple ventures, painting has never been his profession, it is his passion, something he pursues purely for the love of it. He never set out to be a conventional artist and has no interest in the validation of the art world and its pretensions. His work resonates simply because he sees beauty in unexpected places and has a rare ability to translate that vision onto canvas.
Raised among tigers, gorillas, and leopards, Bassa developed an instinctive connection with wildlife. This unique perspective allows him to capture the energy and presence of animals with a depth that feels personal rather than purely observational. At the same time, he was surrounded by the glamour of his father’s world…the legendary Claremont casino set, Annabel’s nightclub, and an era defined by high-stakes risk-takers, aristocrats, and larger-than-life personalities. Growing up in that world gave him a unique appreciation for style and beauty like no other, something that now feeds into his art.
Since picking up a paintbrush a decade or so ago, Bassa’s distinctive style, using ultra-violet and Italian Maimeri acrylics to create bold textures and depth, has drawn international collectors. His ability to play with light and movement gives his pieces a striking, three-dimensional effect. In 2022, he was invited to exhibit at London’s prestigious Saatchi Gallery, an achievement that would be a career highlight for many, though for him, painting remains purely a creative outlet. The greatest reward, in his view, is seeing his work placed in extraordinary homes, where it complements architecture and design with purpose and personality. That is his personal reward.
Whether it’s a portrait of a cultural icon or an animal in motion, his work carries that unmistakable Aspinall touch…refined, bold, and effortlessly cool.
Following his father’s ethos of living on his own terms, Bassa approaches art as he does business—selectively and instinctively. He paints what and whom he wants, taking on commissions that align with his creative vision. His work has been featured in global publications, but for him, true validation comes from those who choose to live with his paintings.
His subjects range from cultural icons and sporting legends to personal commissions, each infused with his unmistakable style. As he once put it, he paints simply because he enjoys it…nothing more, nothing less.
