Bio

Bretten-Anne Moolman uses art as a powerful tool for communication, often weaving natural and social commentary into her work. They are frequently rich in deeper meaning, designed to intrigue the viewer and raise awareness when needed. Having grown up in the Karoo, she has a deep connection to its landscape and a profound understanding of the importance of water.

Moolman prefers to work with acrylic or oil paints, constantly challenged to create art that reflects her perceptions—whether as a thing of beauty or a commentary on human behavior. She graduated with a Fine Arts degree from Rhodes University in 1991, followed by a Higher Diploma in Art Education in 1993, where she earned three distinctions.

Now based in Port Elizabeth, Moolman works as a professional artist and has taught both children and adults since 2000. She has held nine solo exhibitions, with her most recent being About Rain at the GFI Gallery in Port Elizabeth in 2019. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Farmer’s Almanac at The Gallery at Grande Provence in Franschhoek, Cape Town, in 2021. Her works are held in both private and corporate collections in South Africa and internationally.
