Bio

Dessie starts every piece being scared –the blank canvas – which is eagerly waiting for her. She says: “Unsure or is it that I am insecure?”  She says it then finally comes together!

The puzzle pieces click together, a picture forms in her mind’s eye and she reaches for the colours, her airbrush, her brushes, her favourite acrylic markers and starts painting one layer after another. Before she knows it, it is complete!

Like waking up from a dreaming meditation, she looks at a finished piece and says it’s as if someone else did it!  Another her but more playful and more extrovert.

Her pallet of preference is bright, vivid, cheerful colours, while the textual contrast between glossy resin surfaces is her favourite medium. The inclinations towards bold and beautiful get tempered, as her early exposure to and love of mathematics and geometry lead her to include black and white detailed work. The matt cracked, distressed background attracts her strongly so her works are a fusion.

As a child, she loved cartoons and this developed into a passion for comics and manga animations as she grew up.

The colourful characters who brought joy to her life still exert their influence on her today.

She wants her art to bring joy to someone’s life every time they look at a piece.  She also wants there to be some sex appeal with a touch of temptation because she believes that life is not complete without love.  So true.
