Bio

JooJ” is a Guinness World Record holding artist with a unique approach, medium and style. The Mother City is where he now finds himself and where his roots have become wings.

He didn’t start out dreaming of being an artist, it was more of a calling.  He has lived a full life and everything he has experienced has brought him to this point.

The hand folded butterflies are merely his own personal medium. Using Acrylics just adds to the story and enhances the butterflies in flight.

Inspired by the grand masters of art, film and his love for the pencil drawn stencils he recreates, he makes use of thousands of individually folded, painted origami butterflies glued to Perspex to tell a story.

His most recent collection “Glued to the Classics” is a reimagining of works by some of the greatest artists of all time and came about when he was shown Van Gogh’s “Starry Night in fur”, or so he thought.  The movement in the work inspired him to visualise how this masterpiece could look in origami. He was convinced his butterflies would bring the movement of this iconic piece to life in the most magical way. Don’t you think he was right?

And so “Glued to the Classics” was born in his imagination, and truly believed reinventing classics by renowned artists like Botticelli, Da Vinci, Hokusai, Klimt, Van Gogh and Vermeer will bring joy to those that laid their eyes on the thousands of colourful butterflies swirling in motion.
